The Institut für Geologische Wissenschaften is looking for a motivated candidate to work on a collaborative research subproject funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany.
Assisting in preparation and participating in the SO 273 expedition with the German research vessel R/V Sonne (Southwest Indian ocean, March/April 2020) and characterization, selection and preparation of rock samples. Further tasks include sample digestion and element separation in clean room environments, mass spectrometric analyses with focus on platinum group elements and Re-Os isotope systematics, data reduction and interpretation and publication of results. Technical support in clean lab procedures and supervision of research assistants in the lab are also part of the job description.
Your Qualifications :
M.Sc. degree in geosciences or or a closely related discipline. Practical experience in isotope geochemistry and petrology and very good English skills will be beneficial. Freie Universität Berlin is encouraging applications from women and disabled persons. The position is initially funded for 26 months and can be extended pending the availability of additional funding.
